Improve What No Longer Makes Sense

Did you ever think that problem-solving was a profound skill?

I say it is because there is no one solution to a problem. Some solutions may be more efficient or more effective, but that does not take away the fact that there is more than one way to solve a problem. And often, the best solution today, the one that’s most efficient and most effective, may not be the best solution tomorrow. The best solution is temporary, no one knows if it exists.

But if you really commit yourself to solve a problem, you may just find a better solution

This often leads me to believe that no one really has it all figured out. People only ever create assumptions from the information they have learned and know, but there’s so much more that we don’t know. There’s so much room to figure out how to do things in a better way. So what does all of this mean? Why is it important?

Well, instead of finding it depressing, I figured that I am allowed to doubt everything

Because everyone can be wrong. I know that this may seem weird, but for someone who’s trying to find their way in this world, who’s trying to make sense of life, responsibilities and how things should be done, this is a very empowering perspective to hold. This means that I too am allowed to make sense of things for myself and pave a path for those who will come after me.

Because that’s what matters, right? Making the world a better place for future generations

You don’t have to be special or naturally gifted to do this, you just have to be willing enough to explore your curiosity regardless of the doubt acting against you. The world is growing and you currently exist in it. You see the parts of it that need to be improved, so don’t be afraid to better it. As I said, you don’t have to be anyone special to do this, but doing it makes you someone special.

Let me share with you the words of Woodrow Wilson,

You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world.”

Here is what I wish to leave you with,

You Should Definitely Doubt Everything

Of the many solutions to problems that exist in this world, you are directly exposed to a small subset of them. And as you interact with them, you learn about them. As you learn about them, you see ways to improve them or do things differently. Do not think this to be wrong, the people before you have worked hard to give you this headstart — use it.

Welcome your doubt and use it to ask your questions

Don’t put people on pedestals and think them to be superior to you. People around you may do this, but never do this to yourself — we are all human beings doing the best that we can with what we have. And many people don’t understand value until they see it, so you have to see this value in yourself first. If you see this through, you will give a headstart to those who will come after you.

Sometimes, it falls upon a generation to be great. You can be that great generation. Let your greatness blossom.” — Nelson Mandela

Be Brave Enough To Follow Your Curiosity

If we each were exactly the same, then I would think it should be fine to follow one another. But we are not, we each have our own differences that make us our own. These differences in us are special and very much necessary. Think about it, they help you stay unique. And as you go about making sense of life and the world around you, your differences are there to help you make a difference.

Especially when the things imposed on you don’t make sense

But to follow your curiosity, to ask your questions demands a great deal of bravery. To go against norms, society and the people you respect is no easy task. But I say, think broader. Think about those who will come after you and how they will benefit from what you’re doing. Let this be the light guiding you through your darkest moments on your righteous path and you will see this through.

You must do the things you think you cannot do.” — Eleanor Roosevelt

Improve The Things That No Longer Make Sense

Steve Jobs once said, everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you. The people before us used informational resources available to them to plan the best way forward for us, and this has helped us for a long time. But the world is changing and we have better resources available to us to make better decisions.

We were given a headstart, so it’s only natural to see ways to improve life

The progress of humanity depends heavily on those who are willing enough to change and improve norms that no longer make sense. So, if you understand something well enough and see that it no longer makes sense, don’t be afraid to question it. Be willing to be wrong, or be thought a fool by those around you because in the end, you would have made the world a little better than it was.

All that was great in the past was ridiculed, condemned, combated, suppressed — only to emerge all the more powerfully, all the more triumphantly from the struggle.” ― Nikola Tesla

The universe is not static, it is changing, it is growing with each passing moment. These changes may be small, but they are significant. And for life to go on, these changes must be embraced. Whatever resists these changes often fades away. This is quite true on the grander scale of life, for life as a whole. But it is also true on a smaller scale of life, for the life in you.

Change is inevitable, but it often leads to improvement

So do not feel discouraged when you find things that need to be improved. You see it for a reason, so you have to see it through. I mean, if you give in to whatever convinces you not to do it, someone else will come along and do it.

There’s nothing wrong with this

But you know, I figured that life feels much more purposeful knowing that what you did, however little, gave others a headstart and contributed to the betterment of humanity in some way.

Life isn’t just about taking in oxygen and giving out carbon dioxide.” ― Malala Yousafzai
